Lighting Shabatt Candles

This is one ritual that was easily incorporated into my life. Maybe because we lack time to think about our week or to stop to really share a moment with someone special. Lighting Shabbat candles is a way to welcome the Shabbat, it means setting some time to conclude and think about my week. It is completing a cycle. Do you know that end-of-the-year-feeling when you make a balance of good and bad deeds? For me, it is like replicating it in a small scale. It was the first prayer I learned that made me fell connected to others. Sometimes I think that around the world people are doing the same thing and this gives a powerful meaning to my simple act of lighting candles. It is a personal and, at the same time, collective experience that was kept for thousands of years. I check the time for lighting the Shabbat candles at the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
