I have a friend who will become an official Jewish soon. For me, she is already Jewish. When I compare myself with all the other people converting, one question always comes to mind: Will I be ready one day? Well, I hope so…
Ruth--thanks for posting your comment on my blog. I just finished reading your entries and I'm so moved! I often get questions about situations interfaith families face and, honestly, I can only guess. Like your husband, I would date non-Jews, only to break-up with them because they weren't Jewish (I know, so unfair). At some point, when I was ready to get serious, I only dated Jewish men. Like you, I also have friends who converted for the wrong reasons and I hear their remorse every year when we go to our annual mother-daughter Nutcracker Ballet/Tea at the fancy hotel in town. I admire your quest and the honesty with which you are sharing your journey with others. If possible, please send me your email address--I would love it if you would submit an article for me to post on my website www.modernjewishmom.com. You can reach me at meredith@modernjewishmom.com.
