My first challah bread

There are one part of being Jewish that I will always lack – having a Jewish background. I would never say to my children that I used to go to the synagogue with my mom, give them a menorah that was from their grandfather or that I have a secret recipe that runs in the family. This thought always disturbed me until my mom’s last visit.
One cay, my mom and I were sitting in the kitchen talking about recipes and my mom wanted to teach me bake bread. While browsing some cooking books, I asked her to teach me how to bake traditional Jewish bread. At first she was scared of not being able to do it. After some minutes, she decided that we should bake it together. She tricked the recipe to give her personal touch (she does that with every new recipe)
It took us the entire day. We went out to buy the kosher yeast, flour and all the ingredients. The day temperature was ideal to bake bread.
I was very happy to have the opportunity to bake my first challah bread with my mom. It was delicious and she made this day an unforgettable experience on my conversion process.
This day not only taught me that I can have a Jewish background even if my parents are not Jewish, but also showed me that my mom is my hero. She went out of her comfort zone to help me in my conversion process. After that, it was very clear that she will always be by my side.

Dearest,
you know how much I love you and I could never not make any remarks on the subject, especially when I completely understand your point. My life's always been about being a jew without exactly looking like one... as you know, mom's jew and, so am I... and I actually grew up coming to the sinagogue now and then. And believe me, I'm sure you make the community much happier than I do, orininally being a jew... being a jew overcomes birth... it relates to feeling like one and deeply understanding the true meaning of what it evoques: the strength of a nation bonded only by their souls, and not by apparently stronger material bonds like visual identity or land. I want you to know I'm even prouder now of my jewish heritage, just because you are now, one of us. God bless you, shalom. PS: CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE A PIECE OF YOUR CHALLAH BREAD! Haven't had it in quite some time. Luv u always. Fé
